Dr Catherine (Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at the University of Exeter)
The Cathedral Library has several medical and scientific manuscripts from the Middle Ages. They include a medical encylcopaedia by the fourteentyh-century physician John of Gaddesden (mentioned by Chaucer in the Canterbury Tales) to a collection of recipes for cures. Join Dr Catherine Rider for this talk, where she will introduce some of these texts and their authors, and looks at what they can tell us about health and medicine in the medieval period. It will be accompanied by some of the wonderful books from the Library and Archive medical collection.
