Canonteign Falls awarded RHS Partner Garden Status

Canonteign Falls is thrilled to announce it has joined 230 other stunning gardens to become an RHS partner garden.

Canonteign Falls offers a breathtaking escape into nature, where cascading waterfalls and ferns can be found in ancient bluebell woodlands.  The Victorian Fern Garden, tucked into a hanging valley beneath the magnificent Lady Exmouth Falls, thrives in a unique microclimate that supports its extraordinary collection of ferns. Majestic tree ferns (Dicksonia antarctica) stand proudly alongside an array of other varieties, including two Plant Heritage National Collections of Polystichum and Dryopteris hardy ferns. This garden is beautiful example of curated ferns and historical restoration.

At 70 metres high, Lady Exmouth Falls is England’s tallest single-drop waterfall, created in the 19th century by redirecting Dartmoor’s natural watercourses down a rugged cliffside. The falls form the centrepiece of 90 acres of woodland, lakes, and meadows.

From mid-April to May the bluebell woodlands are the star of the show, the woodland floor transforms into a carpet of delicate bluebells.  Nowhere is this display more magical than along the original 90 Victorian steps leading up to the fern garden’s hanging valley.  Complete your visit with a stop at the pretty on-site café and farm shop.

The RHS Partner Garden scheme is a wonderful way for members to visit various independent gardens. As an RHS Partner Gardens Canonteign Falls supports the charitable work of the RHS by offering members free entry throughout their open season from March 24th – November 2nd 2025
