As well as a host of fun and excitement that you will find on a day out at the unique attractions in our group, some of our attractions offer their visitors the chance to learn new skills and get really creative in a host of workshops and craft sessions that are held throughout the year. The New Year is the perfect time to try your hand at weaving a willow basket, have a go at glass-blowing or get help with bee-keeping or why not try a gardening workshop? Many of these workshops are for adults and are the perfect opportunity to have a go at something new that you may not have ever tried before. See below some of the great classes on offer at our attractions – the perfect antidote to the winter blues.

RHS Rosemoor offers an unbeatable range of events for families and all ages throughout the year. In addition, they have an unrivalled range of workshops including those for help in the garden – pruning, getting to grips with your allotment, garden design, hanging baskets, vegetable growing, growing herbs and many more. Plus, there are some other creative classes including spring flowers in needlefelt, willow basket making, bee or butterfly mosaic stake making, oil and acrylic painting, printing with leaves and much more. The Teddy Factory at Dartington Crystal Visitor Centre offers a delightful interactive experience for the little ones or big ones alike! In this workshop, visitors can embark on a journey of creativity by crafting their very own plush companions.  This unique, immersive experience allows shoppers to be part of every step in creating their one-of-a-kind furry friend. Or why not try your hand at handcasting? Have your child’s hand or footprint cast forever in glass which can also be personalised with the name or date. The perfect gift or souvenir. Booking is essential. Plus get creative, children and adults can join in the fun together by painting glasses as a souvenir of their visit in their brand new, vibrant activities area.

At Quince Honey Farm they offer various experiences and events for their customers, including events specific for children/families, seasonal events, workshops and talks. Have you ever wanted to find out more about beekeeping, sustainable gardening, or natural landscaping? Are you passionate about the environment? Look out for their workshops on subjects such as drystone walling and willow weaving, and their programme of regular talks focusing on the natural world and conservation.

 

Quince Honey Farm Bee Keeping

Buckfast Abbey can help you on your beekeeping journey with their comprehensive course designed to provide you with a solid foundation in beekeeping. Each session blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, both in the barn and at their teaching apiary, where you’ll work with their delightful bees. Also, for beekeepers who already have some experience spend an informal and enriching day with Buckfast beekeepers Martin Hann and Clare Densley on their Exclusive Beekeeping Experience as they conduct their routine colony inspections.

At House of Marbles you will find the Teign Valley Glass Studio that offer an exciting range of Glass Workshops, where creativity meets craftsmanship. From the intricate art of glassmaking to the comprehensive experience offered in one of their bespoke sessions, they cater to enthusiasts of all levels. Each workshop is designed to provide a hands-on learning experience under the guidance of expert artisans. The workshops are perfect for individuals, duos, and groups looking for a meaningful engagement with glass art, with options suitable for beginners and returning participants alike.

The Box is Plymouth’s award-winning museum, art gallery and archive. It’s a place where art, history, ideas and experiences come to life! As well as exhibitions, talks and tours they do regular creative and crafty workshops for children as well as for adults. Join the Building Resilience in Communities (BRIC) team and get involved with a great collaborative artwork! Over the past year, the BRIC team have been making crafty ‘puddles’ with communities in Plymouth, having conversations about flooding and how it affects the city. Add your finishing touches, learn more, and have your say on the question: ‘When does a puddle become a flood?’ This drop-in session is for all ages. Plus this half term join The Box to make colourful bird puppets taking inspiration from the owls and ‘jumbie birds’ in the ‘John Lyons: Carnivalesque’ exhibition, as well as local birds.
